Description
Kuranda Villas, in Barang Street, is an ideal location for a family that is looking for comfortable and affordable accommodation. It is centrally located, one street back from the main street, within walking distance of all the attractions within the village. There is an organic bakery, a fruit and veg shop selling organic produce, delicious vegetarian meals to enjoy at home, and desserts. There is also a butcher which stocks hormone-free meats, organic and free range poultry and other delicacies. Kuranda was founded in 1876 and inhabited by the Djabugay aboriginal people. Tourism began in the area at the beginning of the twentieth century and became very popular in the 1960's with the "hippie" generation for it offered a fabulous location for their alternative lifestyle. The village is located in the rainforest 300 metres above sea level in the Cairns Highlands. The climate is cooler and less humid and just 30 km from Cairns up the scenic Kuranda Range Road with views overlooking the Great Barrier Reef. Kuranda is surrounded by World Heritage listed wet tropics rainforest with approximately 1,200 species of flowering plants, 800 of which are rainforest trees.
